The Kootenay Chamber Players invite you to an evening of rich harmonies and folk-inspired elegance featuring two of Antonín Dvořák’s most beloved chamber works.
Hailing from Nelson, BC, and well known throughout the Interior for their vibrant performances, violinists Natasha Hall and Anne Armstrong, violist Martine Denbok, cellist Jeff Faragher, and double bassist Rob Fahie bring depth and artistry to this dynamic program. Dvořák’s String Quartet in F major, Op. 96 (“American”) brims with infectious spirit and sun-soaked melodies, composed during his time in the United States. His Quintet in G major, Op. 77, with its unusual addition of double bass, adds warmth and resonance to a joyful, nature-infused soundscape. This compelling program showcases the composer’s deep lyricism and folk roots, offering audiences a glowing portrait of Romantic chamber music at its finest.

Natasha Hall - Violin
She has appeared as soloist with the Oxford Sinfonia, City Chamber Ensemble (London UK), Battersea Ensemble (London UK), Calgary Civic Symphony, Symphony of the Kootenays, Carnegie Mellon University Baroque Ensemble and the Selkirk Youth Orchestra. Prior to a recent move back to her hometown of Nelson BC, Natasha spent the last decade based in London UK and is a member of the English Chamber Orchestra. She has performed regularly with the BBC Symphony Orchestra, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Royal Northern Sinfonia, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic and the Aurora Orchestra. Natasha and pianist Yoomi Kim enjoy playing recitals together regularly. Alongside her musical endeavors, Natasha enjoys practicing Shinrin Yoku, is a certified Forest Therapy Guide and the founder of Kootenay Forest Bathing. Always passionate about learning, she is especially interested in exploring music as a sensory experience, particularly in multimedia contexts.
Anne Armstrong - Violin
Anne Armstrong recently moved to Nelson after a lengthy career as a violinist with the Canadian Opera Company Orchestra based in Toronto. During that time she also free-lanced with the Esprit Orchestra(contemporary music), the National Ballet Orchestraand numerous chamber, choral, and studio ensembles. She holds a degree in Music Performance from the University of Toronto.
Martine Denbok - Viola
Martine denBok holds a Bachelor of Music in performance from the University of Alberta and a Master of Music in performance from the University of Victoria. While studying in Victoria, she was a student of Ann Elliott-Goldschmid and the Lafayette String Quartet, worked as a student mentor, assisting public school string teachers and participated in workshops with Mimi Zweig, Gary Karr and Gwen Thompson.
Jeff Faragher - Cello
Cellist Jeff Faragher, based in Nelson, is known for his captivating performance style and diverse musical interests, spanning genres like Celtic, gypsy-jazz, and tango. Jeff holds a masters in Chamber MusicPerformance from McGill University and has toured with many ensembles throughout North America. He is currently the artistic director of the Symphony of the Kootenays and program director at Mountainside Chamber Music, bringing his dynamic artistry to stages across Western Canada.
Rob Fahie – Double Bass
Originally from Ottawa, Rob Fahie attended McGill University, completing his Bachelor of Music in Jazz Performance. He then received a full scholarship to the University of Colorado, completing a dual-concentration Master of Music degree (jazz and classical). During his career, he has performed at prestigious jazz clubs and premier concert halls throughout the world including The Blue Note and Carnegie Hall. In 2013, Rob moved to Nelson and has succeeded in making a name for himself on the region’s vibrant music scene, including helming the Nelson Jazz Collective, and performing as Principal Bass for the Symphony of the Kootenays.
